Tom Hiddleston Has the Best Carrie Fisher Story

Backstage at the Golden Globes following his best actor win for The Night Manager, Tom Hiddleston recalled the night he hung out with Carrie Fisher, as he paid tribute to her unique legacy—and her quirky dog-loving ways.

“Carrie Fisher was such a fighter,” he told reporters. “I spent one evening with her in Washington last summer at the White House correspondents’ dinner, and she had this indomitable spirit that was bigger than the occasion.”

The actor said we should take note of the way Fisher lived. “She was such a force for life,” he said, “and if we can take any lesson from her, it’s to live as fully as we can, to embrace our weaknesses, and that very act makes them become strengths.”

Fisher was known for bringing her dog Gary with her everywhere, and the White House was no exception. In fact, she called upon Hiddleston to help her out, and showed him a fabulous bit of Star Wars memorabilia in the process. “She was so funny,” he said. “She was looking after her dog Gary, and I was looking after Gary’s rubber duck, which was actually a rubber duck of Princess Leia.”
