Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan-Rekha, Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif, Raj Kapoor-Nargis, Dharmendra-Hema Malini, Dilip Kumar-Madhubala, Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone – what do all these pairs have in common? The answer is pretty evident – they’ve all enthralled us with their sizzling onscreen love stories time and again. So crackling has been their chemistry, and so pulsating their passions, that their pairings alone have managed to draw the audience to theaters. And it all took place the moment we cast our eyes on them on that huge 70 mm screen in a dark corner of a cinema hall. That first caress on the cheek; that first peck on the lips; and we wanted nothing more than to see these gorgeous couples cast together again and again and again.
The coming year will see a number of fresh pairs on the silver screen. Could these virgin onscreen couples create the same magic as the aforementioned ones? Could they bring the same spicy sizzle and raging romance to a Director’s vision? Could they be the next SRK-Kajol or Dharmendra-Hema of Bollywood? Let’s find out.
Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam in Kaabil
One is an actress with tremendous potential, who had floored us in her romantic track with Ayushmann Khurrana in Vicky Donor, and the other is known as the Greek God, and arguably, the hottest Indian actor ever to grace the silver screen. Together, they could well be the next ‘it’ thing in Bollywood, which would be great news for Hrithik fans were it to happen because for the all accolades for his performances, looks, and physique, the actor hasn’t really had a pairing with an actress that evokes nostalgia in its most romantic sense.
Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in Raabta
The success of M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has given a massive thrust to Sushant’s career, with his performance in the film being unanimously praised as one of the finest of 2016. The actor returns next year opposite Kriti Sanon – an actress who has had a good start in Bollywood with Dilwale and Heropanti – in Raabta; which is centered on themes like love, dreams, and destiny. With the film slated to hit screens during the Valentine’s Day weekend, Sushant and Kriti could just be the surprise hit pair of 2017.
Akshay Kumar and Huma Qureshi in Jolly LLB 2
Now this is one unusual pairing, but don’t we just love it when such unique casting choice click? Plus, it’s Akshay we’re talking about – someone who can look good and make a romantic track convincing with just about any woman on the planet. Remember his first-time collaborations with Nimrat Kaur and Ileana D’Cruz this year? Huma is a seriously underrated actress, and jolly LLB 2 could be the film that raises her stocks in Bollywood. We expect this one to be a sweet, simple love story, with a hint of desi tadka.
Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh in Phillauri
Speaking of unusual pairings, does it get any more different than bringing together Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh? Both are riding high on recent successes, and are currently huge draws at the ticket window. With Anushka playing a ghost, we’re not sure how her romantic scenes with Diljit would pan out, but that’s what makes this union all the more tantalizing. Besides, this being Anushka’s home production, we’re sure that she’ll leave no stone unturned to ensure that her chemistry with Diljit is remembered for a long time to come.
Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in Half Girlfriend
Films based on Chetan Bhagat’s novels have more often than not hit the bulls-eye at the box-office; something Arjun Kapoor is all too familiar with. He shared good chemistry with Alia Bhatt in his last outing of a Bhagat adaptation – 2 States – and with Mohit Suri in the Director’s chair, you could expect the film to be full of desire and passion. Shraddha has a huge fan-following, especially in smaller towns, and her union with Arjun could spring a similar surprise like she had done with Aditya Roy Kapur three years ago. Moreover, Suri’s films almost always have good music, which is a vital ingredient in creating memorable onscreen pairs.
Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra in Meri Pyaari Bindu
Ayushmann hasn’t had a release since the success of Dum Laga Ke Haisha last year, and Parineeti is making a comeback three years after the debacle of Kill Dil. Both are extremely talented performers, and if the story and music clicks, they could create magic on screen with their intensity and conviction. What’s more, they’re retuning to Yash Raj Films – the stable that has been responsible for giving them quite a bit of success. Our fingers are certainly crossed for this onscreen couple.
Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez in Reloaded
Though Sid and Jacq will be seen in an action film together, who’s to say that it can’t provide for some searing moments between the two? Bang Bang ring a bell, anyone? If anything, with all the bullets and high-octane stunts going around, an action film is just the perfect place for some smooth, sexy, and spicy flirtatious tracks between the lead pair. And Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. of Go Goa Gonefame seem like the right duo to realize this on film. Two heartthrobs having fun while dodging bullets is an ideal recipe to burn up the screen with some sizzling passion.
Which pair will click with the audience? Which one will be rejected? Can any of these pairs achieve that status, which makes filmmakers want to case them over and over again? 2017 Bollywood Movies is certainly shaping to be an exciting year for virgin romantic pairs? We wish all these young actors the very best for their respective movies, and hope that they share the kind of delicious chemistry that makes us fall head-over-heels in love with them.
