Bollywood Controversies that were hard to ignore in 2016

There is something always up in Bollywood. And these ‘somethings’ are not always favouring the goody goody image of the celeb in question. Well, they say all publicity is good publicity. And controversies (intentional or not) certainly give the much needed mileage to the Bollywood stars/films, thus keeping them in news. Year 2016 was no different. Many controversies made it to the headlines and stars (may be) regretted being in one. Here’s a quick recap of some of the controversies that were hard to ignore in 2016.

‘Shivaay’ vs ‘ADHM’ feet KRK

A big controversy broke out when a sting operation was carried out on Kamaal R Khan by team ‘Shivaay’. In this operation, KRK revealed that Karan Johar paid him a hefty amount to talk good about ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. The audio conversation between the producer of ‘Shivaay’ and KRK was released online and it sent a wave of shocked.

Amitabh Bachchan and Panama papers

This one shook the entire nation. Amitabh Bachchan’s named got embroiled in one of the biggest scandals and that is ‘Panama papers’. The leaked documents had it that Big B was the owner of 4 offshore shipping companies. Even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s name was in the list of Indians in these papers. Later, with an official statement, both of them denied of owning any such companies.

Rishi Kapoor’s ‘slapgate’ with a fan during Ganpati Visarjan

Like every year, even this year the Kapoors made it a point to carry out Ganpati celebrations at their residence. But on the day of visarjan something went wrong. Rishi Kapoor slapped a fan during the visarjan ceremony and the video of the same went viral on the internet.

‘Udta Punjab’ controversy

Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh-starrer ‘Udta Punjab’ was one of the most hard-hitting films of the year 2016 as it dealt with the menace of drug abuse in Punjab. But unfortunately, the movie ran in trouble with the CBFC. Many cuts and alterations were suggested to the makers which irked the film industry. The makers did not give in and refrained from making any kind of changes in the film. Finally, the film was passed with an ‘A’ certificate.

‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ controversy

After the Uri attacks, a controversy broke out on whether the Pakistani artistes should be allowed in Indian cinema or not. What added fuel to fire was the silence of Pakistani actors like Fawad Khan on the issue. Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ was worst hit by this. Political parties demanded for a ban on this film as it featured Fawad Khan. But then the makers managed to convince the concerned political parties and the film got a smooth release. But the ban on Pakistani artistes in Hindi cinema continues.

Priyanka Chopra’s armpit saga

Being a global name, Priyanka Chopra featured on the cover of a leading magazine ‘Maxim’. Post this a controversy broke out on how her cover picture and especially her underarms were photoshopped to lighten up the skin tone. People slammed her for being ashamed of her skin tone and sending out a wrong message to women out there. But then she shut all her haters by posting the same kind of picture, showing off her armpits, on her Instagram page.
